OCEAN REEF PAPERWEIGHTSTs Michael's paperweights evoke a tapestry of living organisms from an ocean reef, maybe from another time and place. He works to abstract the colors and rhythms of aquatic life. The technique used is called murrini, long glass rods are made using different glass colors and patterns. These glass rods are then cut into smaller pieces. The glass pieces are then encased in a layer of clear glass and the imagery becomes very up close with minute details of unique things and places. They can be cleaned using a warm damp cloth. They should be left in sunlight to be truly appreciated. click on any image for a larger view. close image to return to the gallery. | ||

BARNACLE REEF PAPERWEIGHTS White glass threads with black tips create the barnacles in this paperweight. The background is a combination of amber and brown glass. The clear glass encasement gives the illusion of movement within the paperweight as if you are holding the ocean in your hand. click on any image for a larger view. close image to return to the gallery. |
